Master's Program

Doctoral Program

The expected qualities and skills to be acquired through studies for recognition of program completion and awarding of degrees at each department are defined at the school-wide, department-wide, and individual education program levels.

Requirements for program completion
Master's program
Program completion is recognized for master's students who: enroll in the department for at least the standard program duration of two years (or longer for any authorized extended enrollment); complete courses and earn credits with a GPA (grade point average) of 2.0 or greater as required by the student's program for the intended master's degree; receive necessary research guidance; and pass a thesis review or a review of research findings from a specified assignment and the final examinations.
- The program may be completed in a shorter period in the case of an outstanding achievement after at least one year of enrollment.
- Any necessary research guidance may be sought from other graduate schools, institutes, or similar places of learning for a period of up to one year.
Doctoral Program
Program completion is recognized for doctoral students who: enroll in the department for at least the standard program duration of three years (or longer for any authorized extended enrollment); complete courses and earn credits with a GPA (grade point average) of 2.0 or greater as required by the student's program for the intended doctoral degree; receive necessary research guidance; and pass a doctoral thesis review and final examinations.
- The program may be completed in a shorter period in the case of an outstanding achievement after at least one year of enrollment.
Awarding of degrees
A master's or doctoral degree is awarded upon the successful completion of the program. The relevant majors are included in the names of master's or doctoral degrees, as follows:
- Department of Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Ocean Engineering: Master of Engineering / Doctor of Engineering
- Department of Chemistry and Life Science: Master of Engineering / Master of Science / Doctor of Engineering / Doctor of Science
- Department of Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: Master of Engineering / Master of Science / Doctor of Engineering / Doctor of Science
